Ovie Mughelli is Prepared
What are the three unique items you plan to include in your Ready kit in addition to the suggested items?
"I'm packing my old Atlanta Falcons practice jersey and workout sneakers since Ready Georgia recommends including extra clothes in your Ready kit. Rather than purchase new items, I'm going to reuse my old favorites. It's cost-effective and protects the environment by saving resources. My family is very important to me, so I would include a picture of them as well. I planned on attending medical school, and it's always been an interest of mine. I'm going to personally create my first aid kit, making sure to include everything from adhesive bandages to braces for wrapping a potential sprain."
What would you say to fellow Georgians about preparing for a large-scale emergency?
"I've had so many opportunities throughout my professional football career and through my work with my Ovie Mughelli Foundation to interact with young people across the state. I see firsthand through the Foundation's Eco Ambassadors program that when young people are empowered for a cause, they can do anything. Preparing for a disaster is easy and inexpensive. Young people can take the initiative and help get their families ready for an emergency. For example, you can create a plan so that your family can communicate after a disaster. That way, you'll know your loved ones are safe."
Have you or a loved one experienced an emergency where a Ready kit would have come in handy?
"Fortunately, my friends, family and I have never experienced a disaster, but that doesn't mean we're not going to be prepared. Tornadoes recently hit Atlanta, proving that Georgia is not immune to emergencies. It's so easy to prepare and be ready for anything. When we're about to face another team on the field, the Atlanta Falcons prepare for whatever our opponents might have in store. It's the same way with preparing for a disaster. You'll be ready for whatever comes your way."
